It was an early October morning and I was on a grouse hunt about 8 miles from the truck in a very desolate spot of northeastern Minnesota. As I came upon Antler Lake, which is no more than a dammed up portion of Ahmoo Creek, I noticed activity in the water. At first I thought they were beaver but they moved too quickly. As they got closer I could see that they were 2 river otters having just a great time diving & swimming, checking out just about everything. I watched them for a long time before they ever saw me and when they did, the hissing began. They both hissed at me either because I was in their territory or possibly I was the first human they had ever seen and weren’t quite sure what I was. Then I hissed back at them and they hissed at me………then I hissed back. I finally left as they continued to hiss. They won.
