While on a grouse hunting trip during the last weekend of September in a desolate area of northeastern Minnesota, I came across these 3 moose in Lost Lake. The cow moose munched quietly while her 2 calves involved themselves in all sorts of foolery, including playfully  kicking each other, pushing at one another until the other rolled over in the water, etc... When mom had enough of this, she gave out a low moan which must've meant 'C'mon, follow me!' and the 2 rascals snapped to attention behind her, the family slowly walking off to disappear into the dense spruce forest.
