The 1004' American Spirit is about to slide past the South Pier Lighthouse on the Duluth Ship canal in Duluth, MN, inbound to load taconite at the Canadian National Railway (formerly Missabe) Docks. An early May morning finds the American Steamship Co. vessel about to end it's unusually calm Lake Superior journey that has had barely a ripple on the water. As the renamed American Spirit, the former George A. Stinson now honors not only the company's hard working people but also the American worker.
