As the 678-foot S/S Wilfred Sykes approaches Burlington Northern Santa Fe ore dock #5 in Superior, WI members of the deck crew aboard the Sykes are unfastening the hatch clamps from the hatch covers. With the hatch clamps loosened the iron deckhand, a hatch crane, will remove the hatch covers to ready the vessel for loading. Normally vessels loading at this dock will come in through the Superior Entry off Lake Superior which would be straight move to the dock, but for the first time in well over 20 years the Sykes has come through the Duluth Entry then followed the Superior Front Channel to the dock.
