Reptilian Sunbathers
Reptilian Sunbathers
(20 x 14 in.), $2000.00

On a June afteroon, a pair of painted turtles crawl up out of Crooked Lake north of Finland MN, to sun themselves on an upturned windfall atop a moss-covered rocky outcropping. As with all of my photos that originate from a personal experience that is captured in a photo "Reptilian Sunbathers" is no different. This day I happened to be running the boat motor as we fished the lake, between watching the depth locator for rocks and my bouncing rod tip to avoid getting hung up on the bottom, I spotted what I thought was a single turtle sunning itself on shore. Quickly getting my camera to snap a picture while watching the rod tip and locator as well, I snapped a qucik picture. Not until later that night back at our cabin did I notice not one turtle but two. One had just been behind the other and we were far enough off shore that I never noticed it at the time.
